We have been collectors of fine Chinese porcelains of all types for decades,
with a specific focus on Chinese porcelains and antique roof tiles. We recently discovered these exceptional examples. They
are beautifully executed and reproduce some of the classic figures of the Chinese Zodiac and mythology.
In this listing, we are presenting a Goddess of the Fairies astride a Phoenix.
The Phoenix is a symbol of reason, peace and prosperity, and it eggs are the food of the fairies. It glorifies a peaceful
reign, and symbolizes sun and warmth for summer and harvest. The benevolent Phoenix won't injure living insects or tread
upon living herbs, characteristics acceptable to Buddhists who disapprove of the unnecessary taking of a life.
The Chinese phoenix is the personification of the primordial force of the heavens. Feng-huang has the head and the comb of a pheasant and the
tail of a peacock. | | Copyright 2007 - 2004 by Oriental Arts Group, All Rights Reserved. |
